Prospects for August 2011
Starting in August, our team will be supported be two one-year trainees. Besides creating the help function for our new software Main Pyrus BIENE Edition, they will plan and implement an online demo version.

In a keynote presentation entitled "Main Pyrus - Social sustainability as a unique selling proposition", CEO Torsten Brinkmann demonstrated our project in the course of the knowledge balance report 2011 from Think Tank3 of the regional association FrankfurtRheinMain. Participants in the event gained insights into the new ways of market introduction of our product as well as in methods of software engineering. The project and its implementation received enormously positive acceptance. The material to the presentation is available for download in PDF format here.

Article on accessible (barrier-free) enterprise software published
An article entitled "Dismantling barriers" has been published in the July issue of the "IHK-Wirtschaftsforum" business magazine for FrankfurtRheinMain. The article deals with the question of how accessible software in enterprises can create potential of qualified employees and in which areas companies can benefit from software that is equally accessible for all employees. Technical aspects are covered as well as the satisfaction of older employees. The author, Torsten Brinkmann places special emphasis on blind and visually impaired qualified employees and describes by which measures companies can activate the potential of especially this group of persons. Many of them have an academic degree, but only 28 percent of the persons concerned have an employment contract.

During a meeting of the plenary assembly members of the IHK Frankfurt from both Districts, we were able to present our project and the idea to organize information events on the subject of accessible (barrier-free) software. Both subject and idea, were received very positively and a corresponding preparatory working group is planned to be established.

The meeting with the District Administrator of the Hoch-Taunus-Kreis, Mr. Krebs, and members of the human resources and IT department has taken place. The project was received very positively and common starting points were evaluated. Further exchanges and the presentation of the software upon its completion were agreed.

Meeting with the Commissioner for the Disabled of the City of Frankfurt, Mrs. Friederike Schlegel. The conversation was very pleasant and interesting. A close cooperation in the area accessible IT systems in Frankfurt has been planned. Further meetings will follow.

Gedys Intraware partner conference in Friedewald.
At the partner conference the new version GI8 was presented. Besides the Lotus Notes based CRM Suite, a web and mobile version is now being offered. Further information can be found here.
During the meeting, comprehensive talks with other partners were held which will result in closer cooperation. This includes accessible (barrier-free) adaptations and the integration of our accessible DMS Main Pyrus BIENE Edition into the Gedys Intraware solution.

The meeting with the future District Administrator of the Main-Taunus-Kreis, Mr. Michael Cyriax, has taken place. The subject was given a very positive reception and was discussed together with Mr. Minnert, vice head official for organisation, IT and procurement. Specific considerations were carried out concerning a project planned for 2013, which will eventually lead to the creation of a position for a blind archivist by the use of our software. Further talks and approaches have been planned.

Presentation of the Main Pyrus BIENE Edition project at the MTK/HTK committee
The project presentation attracted great interest, so that a working group on the subject is planned to be established.
The idea is to organise events with decision makers from business, public administrations and charitable institutions on this topic. This will involve presenting practical examples and revealing potential. For those who are interested, please feel free to contact Mr. Brinkmann (Main IT) or Mrs. Scheu (head of branch office of IHK Frankfurt in Bad Homburg).

Plenary assembly of the IHK Frankfurt
Mr. Brinkmann managed to achieve that the activation of blind qualified employees will become one of the economic-political goals of the DIHK. After all, 70% of the 1.6 million blind and visually impaired in Germany are unemployed. Likewise, the DIHKs key issue paper on matters concerning the digital world will inform about the prevention of barriers in governmental web sites (e-Government), as this problem also affects elderly people.

A new blind developer works in our team.
He will support our team in the Frontend section. As a result, our companies disabled persons quota rises to approx. 43%. Also in this staff recruitment we were supported significantly by the ZAV.

Two new developers will strengthen our team
Thanks to the excellent cooperation with the ZAV (Central department for employment services of the German Federal Employment Agency, Placement services for disabled academics), we were able to hire two new disabled developers who will take over important tasks in our project "Main Pyrus BIENE edition".

Taunus Sparkasse is a new partner
The Taunus Sparkasse (Savings bank) supports our project and sees great potential in its marketing. In particularly the socio-political and the social responsibility regarding the integration of blind qualified employees were a key factor for the decision to participate in the project.

Meeting with Mrs. Fehler, Chief Administration Director of the City of Frankfurt
Mr. Brinkmann had the opportunity to present the project in a personal talk with Mrs. Fehler and the vice director. Both dialogue partners were very interested. As the city of Frankfurt is planning a request for proposals for a DMS in 2011, the aspect of accessibilty will now be part of the requirements. Another presentation appointment will most likely take place in summer 2011.

New position for a blind requirement manager at Frankfurts University of Applied Sciences
As a result of our joint venture, a new full-time position for a blind requirement manager could be established at Frankfurts University of Applied Sciences. Since August 15th 2010, this position is successfully staffed.

Start of our project Main Pyrus BIENE edition, an accessible (barrier-free) open source document management system
Our project was handed in as a Hessen pilot project at the HA Hessen Agentur and will be funded within the third funding line of the LOEWE project by the state of Hessen. Aim of our project is the development of an accessible (barrier-free) Document Management System containing a scan client (a brief description is available for download here).
Project partners are the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences with its course of studies in Barrier-free Systems and the scan service renderer Skanilo GmbH (a subsidiary of the disabled persons institution Main-Kinzig e.V.). The project will run until September 2011 and ends when reaching release status 1 of the software.

Main Pyrus Biene Edition as Hessenmodell (funding model of the state of Hessen)
Our accessible (barrier-free) DMS project will probably be funded by the state of Hessen. Remarkable social interest and positive feedback have encouraged us to make an application to the Hessenagentur. As a result, the start of the project will be delayed until June, but will speed up the project as a whole. Besides, the scan service renderer Skanilo GmbH, a subsidiary of the disabled persons institution Main-Kinzig e.V., will participate in the project. Due to their long-term experience in the integration and employment of people with disabilities, the project will gain considerably more social relevance. A future cooperation of both partners has already been agreed.

Election for a position in the IHK plenum.
Torsten Brinkmann runs for the office in the section 10 media, information and communication. He wants to champion himself for support of the middle class, the sensible use of IHK contributions as well as the modernisation of IHK structures. His Motto: “Wenn schon Zwangsmitgliedschaft, dann muss der Nutzen auch fühlbar bei den Mitgliedern ankommen. Das Ansehen der IHK bei ihren Mitgliedern muss einfach viel besser werden."
